Love the environment. I wouldn't have came to this restaurant w/o the reviews provided in citysearch. Definitely a good restaurant to try. I would say the food isn't exactly authetic but it is still very good. Love the environment, very classy. Parking was hard though since it is street parking.
WOW is what my tastebuds said. If you have not eaten at Paul K then your missing out on a very unique experience. It was nice to know that the kitchen crew poured their hearts into this food... how do I know this? I can taste it! The servers really took care of me and the music put me in my happy place! Thank you all at Paul K. I will return and eventually try everything. Try the Falafel as an appetizer. WOW!
Great Food - but the waiter was a jerk. I ate here with my fiance and had a very nice dinner. The food was great, although the tables were on top of each other so we were just about sitting on the laps of the people at the tables on either side of us. My main problem with this restaraunt is that our waiter added on to the tip that I wrote on the credit card slip. On a $119 bill I left a $20 tip, which is around 17%. Well, the waiter actually added on a few extra bucks to make it a 20% tip. He was pretty snooty all night and I don't care about the money, but that really wasn't a cool thing to do. Anyways, aside from that and being crammed into the place the food was great.
yum. Great neighborhood eatery. We sat at the bar. Service was polite and prompt. We observed the open kitchen. Loved the mezza platter, especially the artichokes with lemon and garlic. Ohmigawd! I think I have dreams about the artichokes. The lemon peel and garlic are so tender and moist. Not at all what I was expecting. I want the recipe. The mojitos are good here, too.
Not the same old Mediterranean. I love Mediterranean food because it's very healthy and also tastes good. I've never seen Mediterranean food like this; Identifiable flavors and items (such as the hummus and flatbread when we arrived), but tweaked in a very today hip sort of way. The servers and host were friendly, and the late night crowd was Hayes Valley cool as well.

dinner 9/28. Paul K hit a home run for us. We recently had a belated birthday dinner which was amazing. We selected a great bottle of wine to start off with the homemade bread. We couldn't resist the appetizer patter...breaded lamb, roasted lamb, marinated artichoke heart and garlic., etc....a tasty start to say the least. We agreed the duck was the best. The halibut and the lamb weren't far behind. We enjoyed the friendly staff and the posh feel of the space. we highly suggest a visit....brett, peter and gina....thanks:)
New colors and hot stainless steel. My most recent visit to Paul K was Friday night with friends. This time we sat at the bar enjoying some of the fun and unique appetizers: clams, calamari, mezza platter, shoestring fries and of course the wonderful Lebanese flatbread. We finished by sharing delicious Sundaes that seemed to have a hint of almond or perhaps Frangelica liqueur. In the past I've enjoyed the halibut, but my favorite so far is the wonderful Wild King Salmon with the perfectly seared skin. The restaurant's cool, urbane atmosphe is perfect for meeting up with friends or dining with that special someone.
ok place. DOn't get the apetizers they taste weird....yuck. get the entries, they are tasty and large portion. I have 2 $25 off coupons so i am quite willing to go back there to finish them up. but if I have to pay with full price, then no freaking way.
We love it!. Out of all the restaurants in San Francisco, we frequent paul K more than any other. Why? Because the food always tantalizes the tongue, the atmosphere always heartens the soul, and the desserts always delight the spirit. We've been there well over 60 times since its opened ... and we plan to return!
Reconsider. Excited and anxious to try, took a friend for a bday dinner. Disappointing....the mussels weren't cleaned properly, every bite was grainy. Crab cakes were good but very small (two 2-inch diameter cakes). Entree was decent but again, on the small side for the price. Desserts fared a little better but def. would not go back. Try A COTE in Berekely for a great meal at an even better price.
sweet scene, but food is blah. great scene and service, however the food was just bland. we had a few appetizers and each an entree and there just seems to be missing something. It all sounds wonderful on the menu, but very bland overal. I was dissapointed with the flavors, but I'm glad I went b/c I've been wanting to try Paul K. I would choose Kokkokari over Paul K. It's 10 times better and at same prices.

This intimate eatery exudes urbane chic. White linens and stylish lamps punctuate the darkness, beneath a ceiling painted like the night sky. With 30 tables and an open kitchen in the corner, the small dining room gets noisy, especially when pre-theater crowds descend. In a witty nod to the kitchen's sensual treats, large black-and-white paintings of a mouth, nose, finger and eye cover the walls.
Spices and a chef's steady hand combine to create fresh takes on traditional Mediterranean fare. Complimentary caraway-flecked hummus and cooling cucumber-infused water are the first clues. For an appetizer, order delicately charred treviso studded with Humboldt Fog cheese or tiny lamb riblets braised in finger-licking-good pomegranate sauce. Entrees are sensational and satisfying: Juicy roast chicken crackles with a crispy sumac crust, and chili harissa atop the hefty grilled rib eye packs eye-watering heat. Pistachio creme brulee with blueberries is a decadent finale.
Very enjoyable dinner in hip setting. I truly enjoyed my meal in paul k's very hip dining room. I just loved the cucumber infused waters - what a unique touch and quite tasty as well. The tuna appetizer and bass were tops in flavor and presentation. I would visit paul k again and invite my friends to as well!
So-so food for astronomical prices. I admit it: I'm a value kinda gal. I'd rather eat cheap, delicious food at a dive than pay tons of $... money that ultimately goes into covering rent & fixtures rather than the food itself. Unfortunately, Paul K falls into the latter category. I was looking for a nice restaurant for hubby & I to go to. The food was OK, but the portions were tiny... making it a pretty darn expensive meal, especially when you throw in a couple of glasses of wine. One positive thing about the restaurant was the freshly baked flat bread they served with dip. The dip was awesome. We ordered another basket of bread just to eat it all up. Parking in the area is an absolute nightmare. They do not offer valet service.
perfect execution. This is a fantastic place for a date, or a great pre-theatre restaurant. The pomegranite martini was very good, and unusual, the lamb riblets are to die for. Service was flawless, and i loved the decor and music as well. A true find.
Yummy Drinks, OK food. Food was very OK, especially for that price I have definitely had better. Decor is not bad, but in its neighborhood it makes it seem a little pretentious. The pomegranate martini was a refreshing surprise, and distracted me from the less than perfect entrees. Overall it was a good experience because of the company I was with rather than the food.
Not great, not terrible. For $54 a person (6 of us) I wasn't completely thrilled after my experience at Paul K. The food wasn't anything to write home about. They did have a nice wine selection, although it took almost 10 minutes after we were seated before anyone came over to take our beverage orders (we were however served water -- with a cucumber slice afloat -- almost immediately). Because the entire place consists of one large, bluish room (kitchen included), you don't get much in the way of ambiance. I do have to say, though, our waiter was highly entertaining. He had us doubled over laughing with an overly theatrical presentation of the dessert menu. And while I wasn't thrilled with this outing, it looks like Paul K's received respectable reviews, so it's plausible we had a fluke experience. Although there's other great places I would recommend to others.
Great Way to Finish the Day. Our group of five had a great time. We were promtly seated and quickly served water. This was especially appreciated since it was such a warm evening. The food was reasonably priced with good size portions. I had the rib eye while my wfe had the lamb. We both agreed that it was pretty good. However, we all agreed that the dessert could be better. The portions were very small and it did not taste as good as it looked. Our waiter was very friendly and entertaining. I would definitely go back.
