Chef Paul Canales has turned an art deco gem into a black hole in uptown Oakland, and it might just suck you in for good. There’s coffee and bites during the day and in the evening you can bask in the Basque-inspired tapas while listening to live music (or head across the street to the Fox Theater for your melodic fix). High marks for Catalan stuffed peppers, wine on tap, churros, and chocolate.
