The only place in Los Angeles you wouldn’t get laughed out of for wearing a petticoat, Vine Street’s Sassafras has a foot in Hollywood and another one on the Mason Dixon line (circa 1890). The interior here is magnificent, something we’ve come to expect from the 1933 Group, the same folks behind bars like Silver Lake’s Thirsty Crow and Big Foot Lodge in Atwater Village. A reassembled Savannah townhouse, the bar is authentic to its bones. Not a single new item can be found on the premises, from its rotating rack of colorful, root based booze concoctions to the spinning wheel of drink options you can have at when you’re too flummoxed by the one-of-a-kind cocktail menu to confidently select your poison.
